I hate to say this, but…I pity you, sir. You must have seen so very much to have a vision this narrow and gloomy, for our future. Bastion and Stryker are dead, and with that, I think there is a little more hope for our future. Violence ignites violence, and I would really rather prefer to get society to listen to us than to smack them down with our so-called ‘powers’.
You see, if you use a gift that has been given to you in such a way that it kills hundreds of people, that’s not power. That’s weakness. And that doesn’t make you one inch better than the people who burned down an entire town looking for a baby they believed to be the messiah who would save mutant society.
You say you’re ‘more akin to protective measures’, but you make them sound aggressive in stead.
I’ll never deal the first blow, unless it’s anticipative. But even then…if we can fly, or shoot laserbeams from our eyes, or even alter reality…why shouldn’t we be able to achieve peace?
That, sir, is what makes me question the so-called fact that we are more developed than humans.
My dear, why pity me? You’ve just proved my point’s validity. ”Bastion and Stryker are dead, and with that, I think there is a little more hope for our future.” I didn’t say run over innocent men and women with a steamroller, I said destroy those who would see us destroyed. It is not a bad thing to defend ones people from the onslaught of injustice. And it has been quite some time since I believed we should reign over humans as dictators, but I believed that before we were allowed to be heard as equals in the world. You may understand the roots of my agitation.
I am certain your father is quite proud of you for your views on life. You are very wise for your age, and very bold to put icing on to metaphorical cake. I agree with you, Hope, that if you use your powers for nothing but murder it not only weakness, but cowardice. I like to think I bare neither, though I am willing to admit I’ve carried both just the same as anyone else. I also agree that my particular cadence is one that draws from an aggressive nature, regardless of how I intend my words.
Society, as a whole, has begun to accept that the difference between us in not a bad one. We are in the process of changing the world, and yes, it is a world I once thought impossible to achieve. But I say again, the general masses are not the source of the problem.
My point is, there will always be violence in the world. There will always be a need to stop it. You don’t have to strike first. As a matter of fact, kudos for your credo. It’s a noble belief, and I applaud you for it.
Ha…Well, therein lies the ultimate question, doesn’t it? I suppose genetically we are advanced. But a genome can only do so much. Genetic enhancement is only a biological advancement. Perspective is just as susceptible to a mutant as it is to a human. Like a clever little girl once said, ‘a person is a person’. A mutation doesn’t necessarily make you smart, just as a lack of one does not necessarily make you foolish. Although this is the next stage of evolution, there are always links that falter, and there are always pre-evolutionaries that simply flourish until they perish.
Hmm…I think…is it possible that we share beliefs? I’m not foolish enough to think there’ll never be violence once we achieve general peace. I’ve seen to much to be that naive. I’m just…I have to hope that this battle will die down and that there will be more peaceful solutions in the future. I just…I guess I wished that human society saw the potential good we can do with our powers. Not think of us as monsters, though granted, some of us are. There’ll always be people with bad intentions, in human society as well as mutant society. I don’t think we can ever prevent that.
But at least we can try to prevent more casualties in a race that’s already been decimated, by not fueling the fire, hmm?
We all have that hope, Miss Summers. And, at the risk of an awful pun, you are that hope for most. Once again, I agree. Peace is a beautiful dream, and it’s slowly becoming a beautiful goal. Even I’m beginning to gain the faith that humans can accept mutation as a good thing. In time, perhaps your dream will come to fruition.
Ha, I suppose I can attend to that, yes. I won’t go pouring gasoline anywhere, how’s that?
